Two arrested in IPL ticket scam at Girish Park, 21 tickets seized

Two individuals were arrested in connection with an IPL ticket fraud following a complaint at Girish Park police station. The case, registered as Girish Park P.S. Case No-37, dated 21.03.25, was lodged under Sections 61(2)/318(4) of BNS and 3(I)/6 of The West Bengal Black Marketing Act, 1948. The complainant, Dhiraj Mali (33), alleged that he was deceived after responding to a social media post by Ashish Sharma, which claimed that tickets for the KKR vs RCB match on March 22, 2025, were available. Mali contacted Sharma and later met Piyush Mahindra at Girish Park, where he paid ₹20,000 for four tickets.

Upon checking, he found that only two were genuine, while the remaining two were complimentary. His attempts to reach Sharma were unsuccessful. Acting on the complaint, police arrested Piyush Mahindra and Kamal Hussain from Mitra Lane, Kolkata, and seized 17 regular IPL tickets, 4 complimentary tickets, ₹20,600 in cash, and two mobile phones from their possession. The Anti-Rowdy Squad (ARS) of the Detective Department (DD) is handling the investigation. The accused are being questioned regarding their involvement in ticket black marketing.

Authorities are verifying if additional individuals, including Ashish Sharma, are linked to the racket. Officials confirmed that further investigations are underway to track potential networks engaged in unauthorized IPL ticket sales. The police have urged the public to remain cautious while purchasing match tickets and to report any suspicious activity.
